We all got together and contributed to give Mum the gift of having her life story written, for her 80th birthday, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Seeing her reaction to the gift, and then a few months later hearing her story in her own voice, captured so beautifully, is something our family will treasure forever.
We thought we were simply documenting family history; that it would be dry and frankly, pretty dull, but what we received was something far more powerful—a connection to who we are and where we came from. Dad had finished the interview process and was at the final draft stage when he, unfortunately, passed away before his memoir was printed.
